A guarantee is voluntary. Legal conformity is not.
The EU Sale of Goods Directive makes the seller liable for two years for defects that already existed at delivery. A commercial guarantee, by contrast, is a voluntary extra promise from maker or shop – it comes on top of your statutory rights and never replaces them.
Useful: For a defect, go to the seller, not the manufacturer: the maker only owes what its guarantee text says.
