What happens to your money when your bank goes bust.

Across the entire EU, deposits are legally protected up to €100,000 per person per bank. If the bank fails, the national guarantee scheme pays out within a few working days. The protection applies per customer and institution: two accounts at the same bank share the €100,000, while accounts at two different banks are each fully covered.

Useful: If you hold well over €100,000 in accounts, spread it across several banks.
