Language & WorldFact
Earth's biggest desert is made of ice.
Desert means dry, not hot: deserts receive less than 250 mm of precipitation a year. Antarctica, about 14 million km², often gets under 50 mm in its interior, making it the world's largest desert, ahead of the Sahara (about 9 million km²) and the Arctic. At the same time it stores roughly 70% of Earth's fresh water, as ice.
