Mind & EverydayHow it works
How one pronoun calms your head before a performance.
In your head, talk about the situation not as "I" but using your own name or "you". In 2014 Ethan Kross and colleagues found across seven experiments with 585 participants that this framing made an upcoming speech feel more like a challenge than a threat, with less rumination afterwards.
Useful: Before a hard conversation, phrase it once as "what does [your name] need here?" instead of "what do I do?"
