Mind & EverydayHow it works

How one student took his digit span from 7 to 80.

Chunking means grouping single items into meaningful units. Working with Anders Ericsson for over two years, the runner SF learned to read digit strings as running times, dates and ages – and ended up recalling around 80 digits. Chunks of three to four items work best.

Useful: Break any long number into groups of three or four that mean something to you.
