How to build confidence in yourself without talking yourself into it.
In 1977 Albert Bandura described self-efficacy: the belief that you can accomplish a task. It draws on four sources, ranked by strength: your own mastery experiences, watching similar people succeed, encouragement from others, and how you read bodily arousal. In practice: break the goal into steps you will surely manage and collect wins; pick role models who resemble you.
Useful: Reading a racing heart before a talk as readiness rather than fear is source number four.
