Mind & EverydayHow it works
How an if-then sentence makes your goals stick.
Peter Gollwitzer calls it an implementation intention: instead of "I want to exercise more" you say "When I get home on Monday at 6 pm, I'll put on my running shoes immediately." The cue is linked to the action in memory and takes over the decision. A meta-analysis of 94 studies found a medium to large effect on goal attainment.
Useful: Today, rewrite one goal as an if-then sentence with a place and a time.
