How to find an address in Japan when streets have no names.
Japanese addresses run from large to small: prefecture, municipality, district (chōme), block (banchi), building (gō). Street names almost never appear. Block numbers were assigned in order of registration, so in older districts 3 and 4 aren't next to each other. People navigate by signs on utility poles and landmarks. Exceptions: Kyoto uses intersections, Sapporo a grid.
Useful: Carry a screenshot of the address in Japanese script: taxi drivers and neighbours read it faster than any romanisation.
