Science & TechFact
This shrimp punches faster than you can blink.
Mantis shrimp fling their clubs forward at over 80 km/h, cracking snail shells and, rarely, even aquarium glass. The strike is so fast the water in front of the club vaporizes; the collapsing bubbles deliver a second shock wave. Their eyes carry up to 16 types of photoreceptors; you have three cone types for color.
Useful: The club stores energy like a crossbow: muscle loads, latch releases, spring fires.
