Science & TechFact
This animal survived exposure to open space.
Tardigrades are mostly under a millimeter long and shrug off almost anything: vacuum, temperatures near -272 °C, brief spells around 150 °C, and heavy radiation. In 2007 specimens spent ten days outside a satellite and came back alive. Their trick is drying into a tiny barrel and shutting metabolism down almost completely.
