Mind & EverydayHow it works
How one question turns rote learning into understanding.
For each new fact ask "why is this true?" and answer it yourself. In 2013 Dunlosky and colleagues rated this technique of moderate utility – ahead of summarising, highlighting and rereading, all rated low. Practice testing and distributed practice stayed the top two.
Useful: Two why-questions per paragraph cost you a minute and replace several rereads.
