Mind & EverydayFact
A free Coke sold almost twice as many raffle tickets.
In 1971 Dennis Regan had participants rate pictures alongside a supposed fellow participant. During a break he returned unasked with two Cokes, one for each of them. Later he asked them to buy raffle tickets. Those who had received the Coke bought almost twice as many, even when they disliked the giver. The return favour cost more than the Coke.
