Multitasking doesn’t exist – only rapid switching.

The brain doesn’t process two demanding tasks in parallel; it toggles between them. Every switch costs time to reload the rules, often just a few tenths of a second – but they add up. According to the American Psychological Association’s summary, these switching costs can eat up to 40% of productive time, especially on complex, unfamiliar tasks.

Useful: Batch similar tasks and leave your phone in another room while you write.
