Mind & EverydayFact
Your phone distracts you even when it's off.
In 2017 Ward and colleagues gave about 800 people concentration tests. Their silenced phone was either on the desk, in a pocket or bag, or in another room. Those with the phone on the desk scored measurably worst on working memory; those with it in another room scored best. Not looking at it costs capacity by itself.
Useful: For focused work, put the phone in another room, not just face down.
