24 jams drew more shoppers, 6 jams sold more.
In 2000 Iyengar and Lepper alternated a tasting table of 6 and 24 jams in a supermarket. The large table drew 60 percent of passers-by, the small one 40. But 30 percent at the small table bought, versus 3 percent at the large one. Use with care: meta-analyses find the effect only under conditions like similar options and unclear preferences.
Useful: If you want someone to decide, offer three options, not thirty.
