Mind & EverydayFact
Endure pain for longer and still prefer it.
In 1993 Kahneman had participants hold a hand in 14-degree water for 60 seconds. In a second trial: the same 60 seconds plus 30 more seconds at 15 degrees, slightly less unpleasant. Most preferred to repeat the longer trial. Memory rates the peak and the ending, not the duration.
Useful: End holidays, evenings and projects on a good moment; that's what shapes the memory.
