Body & HealthFact
Your second circulatory system has no heart.
About 20 litres of fluid leak from blood capillaries into tissue each day; roughly 17 litres go straight back. The lymphatic system collects the remaining 3 litres or so. In humans it has no central pump: muscle contractions, the muscle cells of lymph vessels and one-way valves push lymph along.
Useful: Explains why legs swell after hours of standing still and settle again once you walk.
