Language & WorldHow it works
How an analogue watch becomes a compass.
Northern Hemisphere: hold the watch flat, point the hour hand at the sun. Halfway between the hour hand and 12 is south. In daylight saving time, use 1 instead of 12. Southern Hemisphere: point the 12 at the sun and the halfway line points north. It's only accurate enough at fairly high latitudes; in the tropics it barely works.
Useful: No watch needed: picture the dial in your head, the time on your phone is enough.
