ABC News counted 112 spellings of Gaddafi's name.

There is no universally accepted authority for transliterating Arabic names into Latin letters. So AP wrote "Moammar Gadhafi", the New York Times "Muammar el-Qaddafi", the Los Angeles Times "Moammar Kadafi", the BBC and Reuters "Muammar Gaddafi". Even his own website used "AL Gathafi", "Al Qaddafi" and "Algathafi" side by side.

Useful: Searching for an Arabic name online, try several spellings; otherwise you'll find only half the coverage.
