Why Spanish starts questions with '¿'.

The Real Academia Española recommended the inverted question mark at the start of sentences in 1754. The reason: Spanish questions often use the same word order as statements; 'Vienes mañana' and '¿Vienes mañana?' differ only in intonation. The '¿' warns readers in advance to raise their voice. It only caught on in the 19th century.

Useful: On phones you usually find '¿' by long-pressing the '?' key.
