Language & WorldFact
The European language related to no other language.
Basque (Euskara) is spoken by around 800,000 people in northern Spain and southwestern France. It is a language isolate: linguists have found no demonstrable relationship to any other language. It's probably a survivor from before Indo-European languages reached Europe. 'Thank you' is 'eskerrik asko'.
Useful: Basque shows that language families are family trees, and some languages stand alone.
