You are living in the middle of an ice age.
Geologically, an ice age begins whenever permanent ice sheets exist at the poles. The current one, the Quaternary glaciation, has run for about 2.6 million years. Within it, glacial periods with ice reaching northern Germany alternate with milder interglacials. The last glacial ended about 11,700 years ago; since then we've lived in the warm interglacial called the Holocene.
Useful: What everyday speech calls an "ice age" is just one cold phase inside a far longer icehouse period.
