Science & TechMental model

Earth's entire history compressed into one day.

Squeeze Earth's 4.54 billion years into 24 hours. The first life appears around 4 a.m. Multicellular animals don't show up until about 9 p.m., dinosaurs arrive at 10:45 p.m. and vanish at 11:40 p.m. Modern humans walk on stage roughly six seconds before midnight.

Useful: When a figure in millions of years means nothing to you, convert it to minutes on this clock.
