Mind & EverydayFact
Losing 100 euros hurts more than winning 100 euros feels good.
Kahneman and Tversky showed that losses weigh roughly twice as heavily as equal gains. Most people refuse a bet with a 50 percent chance of winning 150 euros and a 50 percent chance of losing 100, even though the maths favours taking it. Newer studies confirm the effect but find it weaker for small amounts.
Useful: When you fear a change, ask whether the loss is really as big as it feels.
