Since 2022 you can look up who runs a German company for free.

Since 1 August 2022, records from the German commercial, cooperative, partnership and association registers can be retrieved free and without registration. The change came with the DiRUG act implementing EU Digitalisation Directive 2019/1151. Before that, every look cost a fee.

Useful: Before a bigger deal, check the register: legal form, seat and authorised representatives are stated in black and white.
