Money & WorkFact
Why a car plant gets built without a warehouse.
From the 1950s Toyota perfected just-in-time: parts arrive only hours before installation. Stock costs space and capital and hides defects. The savings are huge, but the plant depends on trucks arriving on time. If a single supplier fails, the whole line stops within days.
Useful: Efficiency and resilience are a trade-off; cheaper usually means more fragile.
