Money & WorkFact
A share is not a betting slip, it is a slice of a company.
A share certifies a stake in a public company's capital: a vote at the annual meeting, a claim on the declared dividend and a slice of the assets. Ordinary shares carry the vote; preference shares trade it for priority in profit distribution.
Useful: Shareholders are liable only up to their investment – you cannot lose more than the money you put in.
