14 years of price fixing, a €2.93 billion fine, one paid nothing.

In 2016 the European Commission fined truck makers €2.93 billion: MAN, Daimler, Iveco, Volvo/Renault and DAF had coordinated prices for 14 years. Unlike a monopoly, a single seller that is often legal (a patent, a power grid), a cartel is several sellers behaving like one, which is illegal. MAN paid nothing: the first to confess gets full immunity (leniency programme).

Useful: Leniency makes every cartel unstable: each member knows the first one to talk wins.
