The first X-ray image showed his wife's hand.

On 8 November 1895 Wilhelm Röntgen in Würzburg discovered an unknown radiation that passed through wood and skin. A few weeks later he photographed his wife Bertha's hand – wedding ring included. She reportedly said: “I have seen my death.” In 1901 Röntgen received the first Nobel Prize in Physics.

Useful: Within a year, hospitals worldwide used X-rays for broken bones.
