Florence Nightingale was, above all, a statistician.
In the Crimean War of 1854–56, ten times more British soldiers died of infection than of wounds in the military hospital. Nightingale collected the numbers and drew them as a “rose diagram” so politicians could grasp them without tables. In 1859 she became the first woman elected to the Royal Statistical Society.
Useful: A good chart often persuades decision-makers more than the number itself.
