Since 2022, Turkey is no longer called Turkey at the UN.
On 4 December 2021 President Erdoğan issued a circular ordering exports to be labelled "Made in Türkiye" instead of Turkey, Türkei or Turquie. On 31 May 2022 the foreign minister wrote to the UN requesting the name "Türkiye"; it was adopted in June. Officially the name better expresses the country's culture; state broadcaster TRT also cited the bird.
Useful: What a country wants to be called is a decision; exonyms like "Turkey" still remain common in other languages.
