Science & TechFact
On 19 January 2038 at 03:14:07, some computers will jump to 1901.
Many systems count time as seconds since 1 January 1970 and store the number in a signed 32-bit integer. The largest value is 2,147,483,647. One second later the number flips negative and the clock reads December 1901. The fix is 64-bit counters: those last 292 billion years.
Useful: Old routers, control units and database fields are the candidates. Anyone maintaining software should look for them.
