Science & TechFact
Your video arrives in thousands of separate pieces.
The internet doesn't send files whole; it chops them into packets, usually up to 1,500 bytes each. Every packet carries sender, receiver and a sequence number and finds its own way across routers. Packets may take different routes and arrive out of order; the TCP protocol reassembles them and requests anything missing.
Useful: If a line fails, packets simply flow another way. That was the design idea since the 1960s.
