Science & TechFact
A teaspoon of this weighs more than a mountain range.
When a massive star explodes, its core can collapse into a neutron star: about 1.4 solar masses squeezed into a sphere roughly 20 kilometres across. Density reaches hundreds of quadrillions of kilograms per cubic metre. A single teaspoon of this material would have a mass of billions of tonnes on Earth.
Useful: Some neutron stars spin hundreds of times per second and serve as the most precise clocks in the cosmos.
