Mind & EverydayFact
A warm lecturer also looks more attractive. Same man, same face.
In 1977 Nisbett and Wilson showed students two videos of the same lecturer with a Belgian accent: once friendly, once cold. The friendly version was rated more attractive, his accent more pleasant, his mannerisms more likeable. Looks and accent were identical. One trait colours the judgement of all the others. Asked afterwards, participants denied any such influence.
Useful: In hiring and grading, score each criterion separately before forming an overall verdict.
