Words about old age don't make you walk slower.
In 1996 John Bargh reported that people who unscrambled words like "Florida" and "wrinkle" then walked more slowly to the lift. The study became a priming icon. In 2012 Doyen and colleagues repeated it with infrared timing: no effect. Participants slowed only when experimenters expected it, and stopwatch timings simply matched those expectations. Many other priming classics have failed since.
Useful: Be sceptical of studies where tiny cues trigger big changes in behaviour.
