The marshmallow test says less about kids than we thought.

In the 1970s Walter Mischel found that children who could wait for a second marshmallow were more successful later on. In 2018 Watts, Duncan and Quan repeated it with 918 children instead of fewer than 90. The link was only half as strong as in the original and shrank by two thirds once parental income, education and home environment were controlled. Waiting depends heavily on environment.

Useful: Self-control isn't a fixed talent; it's also a matter of trust and security.
