Mind & EverydayMental model
The map is not the territory, and your model isn't the world.
Alfred Korzybski put it in 1931: the map is not the territory. Every map leaves things out, or it would be as large as the land. Likewise metrics, diagnoses, personality tests and news simplify reality. Useful, never complete. Trouble starts when you mistake the map for the territory: the satnav says road, but there's a river ahead.
Useful: For every model, ask: what did it leave out, and where could that trip me up?
