Why the crossed-out price makes you buy.
The anchoring effect means the first number you see distorts your judgement. A €49 jumper seems expensive. Put a crossed-out €99 next to it and it looks like a bargain, even though it never had to cost €99. Menus use it too: an €80 steak makes the €32 dish beside it feel sensible.
Useful: Decide what something is worth to you before looking at the comparison price.
