A sugar pill works better if it looks expensive.
A placebo contains no active ingredient but produces measurable effects – especially for pain, nausea and fatigue. Studies show injections work better than pills, two pills better than one, and a higher price strengthens the effect. The brain releases, among other things, its own opioids.
Useful: That's why every new drug must compete not against nothing, but against a placebo.
