Body & HealthHow it works
How a trial stops hope from faking the result.
Randomised: a random generator decides who gets the drug and who gets placebo – so the groups are equal on average. Double-blind: neither patient nor doctor knows who got what until the analysis is done. That way expectation, sympathy or unconscious nudging can't distort the result.
Useful: When a headline says “study shows”, ask: randomised, blinded, how many participants?
