Tomato, chili, avocado and coyote are words you say in Aztec.

Nahuatl, the language of the Aztecs, is still spoken by over a million people in Mexico and hides in your kitchen vocabulary. "Tomato" comes from tomatl, "chili" from chīlli, "avocado" from āhuacatl and "coyote" from coyōtl. All four travelled to Europe via Spanish once the plants and animals arrived there after 1500.

Useful: A word that ended in -tl before the Spanish smoothed it out often comes from Nahuatl.
