Science & TechMental model

The web is not the internet.

The internet is the road network: cables, routers and protocols that have linked computers since the 1970s. The World Wide Web is just one vehicle on it, proposed by Tim Berners-Lee at CERN in 1989: pages, links and http addresses. Email, messengers and video streams use the internet but aren't the web.

Useful: Keeping web and internet apart explains why an app without a browser is still online.
