Science & TechHow it works
Why your phone ignores gloves but feels wet fingers.
Modern displays are capacitive touchscreens: beneath the glass lies a grid of transparent electrodes that maintains a weak electric field. Your finger conducts electricity and draws off a tiny bit of charge, and the grid measures where. A wool glove doesn't conduct, so nothing happens. Water droplets do conduct and create phantom touches.
Useful: Touchscreen gloves have conductive threads woven into the fingertips, which is exactly why they work.
