Mind & EverydayFact
Refuting nonsense costs ten times more than producing it.
Brandolini’s law, coined in 2013 by programmer Alberto Brandolini: the energy needed to refute nonsense is an order of magnitude larger than the energy needed to produce it. A false claim fits in one sentence; the correction needs sources, context and patience. This asymmetry is what makes disinformation so cheap.
Useful: Pick your battles: not every false claim deserves an hour of your research.
