"70% of lottery winners go broke" has no source. The truth surprises.

The 70% figure has circulated widely; the US foundation supposedly behind it said in 2018 it never did such research. The best study tracked 35,000 Florida lottery winners: those winning $50,000 to $150,000 went bankrupt less often than small winners in years 1 to 2, but more often in years 3 to 5. After five years the rates matched: postponed.

Useful: A windfall doesn't fix habits; it only moves the date on which they become visible.
