Body & HealthFact
Your body builds 2 million blood cells every second.
Red blood cells live only about 120 days. Your bone marrow therefore replaces them non-stop: roughly 2 to 3 million new cells every second. In total you carry around 25 trillion of them, more than 70 percent of all the cells in your body. They have no nucleus, which leaves more room for haemoglobin.
Useful: That is why it takes weeks after donating blood for red cells to be fully replaced.
