How to convert Fahrenheit to Celsius without a calculator.
Exactly: Celsius equals (Fahrenheit minus 32) times 5/9; water freezes at 32 °F, boils at 212 °F. In your head: subtract 30, halve it. 70 °F becomes 20 °C, exactly 21. Anchors: 50 °F is 10 °C, 86 °F is 30 °C, −40 is −40. Besides the USA, only Liberia, the Caymans and a few Caribbean states use Fahrenheit.
Useful: For a US forecast: anything over 90 °F is a hot day, anything under 32 °F is frost.
