Ten tonnes of air are resting on your desk.
Standard air pressure at sea level is 101,325 pascals, about 1 kilogram of force per square centimetre. On one square metre of desktop, that's roughly 10 tonnes pressing down. You don't feel it because the pressure acts from every direction and the same pressure exists inside your body. Above every square centimetre of your skin stands a column of air reaching to space.
Useful: That's how suction cups work: they create a partial vacuum inside, and outside air presses them against the wall.
