Science & TechFact
The strongest known material was discovered with sticky tape.
Graphene is a single layer of carbon atoms in a honeycomb lattice, just one atom thick. In 2004, Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov isolated it in Manchester by repeatedly peeling graphite with adhesive tape. It earned them the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics. Graphene conducts electricity and heat superbly and, by weight, is far stronger than steel.
Useful: Every pencil stroke leaves tiny graphene flakes; today it shows up in batteries and sensors.
